West, O'Connor and Hargarve in SCAP3D
The finalists for the Sunshine Coast Art Prize have just been announced and Di West is delighted that her work The Last Tree has been included in the 40 finalists for the 3D section of this prestigious art prize.
This is a National Prize and will be held at the Noosa Regional Gallery (Pelican Street, Tewantin, Qld). Speaking about her entry, West said "I was compelled to create this work after watching a documentary on the clearing of the Amazon rain forests. It seemed not only sad, but so alarming to me that this is still happening. I wanted to do my little bit to send a message that we can change things our our world. Ideally this sculpture will convey my feelings and hopefully make my thoughts understood to the viewer. In this work I create every element completely by hand from wax. A little new leaf holds firmly to the tree, my idea of hope, of optism".
